The Establishment and Evolution of the Jordanian Cooperative Movement

1952

The first law of cooperation was issued in Jordan.

1952

The Cooperative Construction Department was established in the Ministry of Construction and Reconstruction.

1953

Issuance of the first cooperative societies system No. (1).

1953

Establishment of Ghor Al-Mazra’a and Haditha, the first cooperative association in Jordan for savings and credits.

Strengthening Construction and Keeping Pace with Development
1959

Establishment of the Central Cooperative Union to provide financing services and supply production and marketing requirements.

1963

The Cooperative Institute was established by a decision of the Council of Ministers for the purpose of educating and training cooperators.

1964

The Auditing Union was established to audit the accounts of cooperative societies and train their staff.

1968

The Jordan Cooperative Organization was established as a civil organization that included the Central Cooperative Union, the Audit Union, and the Cooperative Institute.

1968

Establishment of the Cooperative Bank as the financial arm of the cooperative organization, granting loans to cooperative societies.

1982

Establishment of three seed multiplication stations in the central, northern, and southern regions.

1997

Establishment of the Jordan Cooperative Corporation as a legal successor to the Cooperative Organization under the amended Cooperative Law.

1998

Issuance of the General System for Cooperative Societies (13).

2021

The number of cooperative societies reached about 1507 societies.
