JCC Achievements 2023
JCC provided financial support from international and local donors to (48) cooperatives with a total value of (1.864) million dinars during 2023 to implement development and production projects in various agricultural, economic, and investment fields, which in turn contributed to providing many job opportunities for cooperative members and members of the local community.
While 40 cooperatives received (1.539) million dinars in financial grants from international organizations and bodies, and local official bodies last year.
In the field of projects and technical support
Badia Rehabilitation Program (Environmental Compensation)/Ministry of Environment provided financial support in the amount of 265 k dinars to (4) cooperatives in Badia within the project to establish and sustain pastoral cooperatives for livestock breeders in Badia, implemented over a period of ten years (2014-2023), with a total value of 2.765 million dinars.
JCC also facilitated the obtaining of a financial grant for (4) cooperatives with a total value of 60 k dinars for each, 15 k dinars from the project of investing in small ruminants and lifting rural families out of poverty, implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD); in order to produce feed mixtures.
Firstly: In terms of cooperation
JCC, after the audit and approval procedures, issued about (877) budgets for active and effective cooperative societies last year, in addition to preparing the cooperative audit guide in partnership with the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the Palestinian Labor Cooperative Authority to circulate it to the rest of the countries in the region, and following up on cooperative societies’ compliance with the national integrity standards issued by the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission.
Additionally, raising awareness of cooperative societies about the conditions for obtaining grants and providing them with the necessary support by preparing a list of donors and contact numbers and giving it to the society inquiring about how to obtain financial support.
In relation to spreading the culture and cooperative thought
JCC worked to qualify and build the capacities of (117) employees by enrolling them in (245) training courses at various local and international training bodies, in addition to training (325) cooperatives on international curricula (Think Coop & Start Coop) and (My Coop), and on the role of cooperatives in eliminating child labor, cooperative legislation, administrative and financial records, providing cooperative services and cooperative marketing.
As well as training (50) university students and farmers on the concepts, importance, and advantages of cooperative work.
Regarding the reality of the cooperative sector based on digital indicators
The number of cooperative societies in the Kingdom reached 1,477 cooperatives by the end of 2023, including 348 agricultural cooperatives, representing 24%, and 77 women’s societies, representing 5%, with 3,550 women as members, while the total assets owned by cooperative societies are estimated at 223 million dinars.
While the number of cooperative members reached 130 k members, the cooperatives provided about 25 k permanent and seasonal job opportunities. It is expected that the number will reach more than 30 thousand job opportunities with the implementation of the national strategy for the Jordanian cooperative movement.
Secondly: The volume of sales
The volume of sales of improved wheat and barley seeds to farmers since the beginning of the season last October until the end of January 2024, through the multiplication stations in Irbid and Madaba, and the Karak sales center has amounted to about 3,159 tons of wheat and barley seeds, with a total value of (1.418) million dinars.
While the value of government support provided to wheat and barley farmers benefiting from seed multiplication stations amounted to (316) k dinars, at a rate of 100 dinars for each ton of sifted seeds.
Regarding increasing the production capacity of seed multiplication stations
JCC has implemented many development and improvement works with funding and support from the National Plan for Sustainable Agriculture for the years (2022-2025) launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, in addition to JCC budget, and the budget of the seed multiplication project from the National Center for Agricultural Research, with a total value of (850) k dinars.
These works included paving and asphalting a large part of the external yards of the stations, carrying out comprehensive maintenance of the surveillance camera system, providing two forklifts, installing new scales with a capacity of 100 tons, and (2) modern technology sieves with a capacity of (10 tons/hour).
Third: On the financial level
The institution transferred a financial surplus of 432 k dinars to the general revenue (state treasury) last year, as a result of collecting loans from previous years, the screening project revenue, and other miscellaneous amounts.
At the administrative and technological level
JCC prepared the (Electronic Cooperative Societies System), which is a database on cooperatives, and its work was circulated to the cooperative directorates in all governorates, in addition to nominating 12 cooperatives in the category of the leading cooperative society, and 9 cooperatives in the category of the inspiring cooperative leader within the participation in the Cooperative Excellence Award organized by the (ICA-AP), and participation in the meetings of the International Federation of Fisheries (ICFO), from which (4) fish cooperative societies received a grant worth 5 k euros, to purchase fish farming equipment.
At the legal level
JCC drafted and prepared (11) agreements, MOU and contracts, in addition to registering (31) new cooperative societies, including 4 women’s cooperatives, liquidating (34) troubled societies, cancelling (30) ineffective cooperatives, and assisting in amending (22) cooperatives’ systems with the aim of developing programs and implementing development projects.
Fourth: In the field of strengthening partnerships, internationally and locally
JCC has concluded (7) agreements with international and local organizations and bodies, including an MoU with the ICA-AP to host and organize the 11th APCMC during (28-30/4/2024), and with the Civil Consumer Corporation to ensure that cooperatives display and market products through civil consumer markets, and with (JoPac) to provide cooperative societies with practical skills in the field of packaging and packing products to increase marketing value, through meetings, scientific seminars, conferences, and joint workshops that highlight the latest developments in packaging technology.
In addition, JCC sponsored the signing of (18) agreements between donors and cooperatives, under which (6) cooperatives received financial support to implement productive projects, and (12) others received branch shredders.
In cooperation with the Mahis Tourism Cooperative Society, JCC launched the “Khair Platform” to market cooperative and agricultural products as a marketing window that contributes to promoting cooperative products.
In light of JCC achievements, JCC DG Shalabi stressed that working to maximize the achievements of the cooperative sector and the Jordanian cooperative movement is necessary in light of the royal directives that give this sector importance and care through the continuous royal support for many cooperative societies in Badia and rural areas.
He pointed out that the work to update the legislation regulating cooperative work is proceeding through preparing a draft law amending the Cooperative Law No. (18) of 1997, and sending for approval in accordance with the constitutional frameworks, as well as working to amend the regulations of cooperative societies and unions and the instructions in force; in line with international standards for cooperative work and the official interest in the cooperative sector.
